Haraldsplass Deaconess University College is a private, academic institution. We were founded in 1918 and are owned by Haraldsplass Deaconess Foundation.

Haraldsplass Deaconess University College (HDUC) is located in Bergen at the west-coast of Norway. Bergen is the second largest city in Norway with app. 250 000 inhabitants.

Bergen is often named as "The gateway to the Fjords", and the fjord area was judged as the best tourist area in the world by National Geographic. A lot of tourists visit BERGEN every year.





Two departments at HDUC

1) Department of Nursing and Health Care
Bachelor of Nursing
Our main study program is a three year fulltime Bachelor in Nursing (180 ECTS), which can also be taken as a five years part-time study. We have about 220 students in this program.

The academic requirements for Bachelor programs are completion of secondary education at advanced level. So far we also have language requirements, and the teaching is normally in Norwegian. Approximately half the bachelor program is practical training, mainly in hospital.

Palliative care
The department of Nursing and Health Care also has a Post Bachelor program in palliative care. This is a part time study program of 30 ECTS.

The academic requirements for this program are a bachelor degree in nursing or health care, and a minimum of one year work experience. From 2010 the Palliative care program will expand to 60 ECTS.

From 2011 we plan to offer a 60 ECTS part time Post Bachelor program in Emergency Nursing.

2) Further and higher education
Our department of further and higher education offers two programs in Counseling, each 30 ECTS. The academic requirements for this program are normally a bachelor degree and minimum one year of working experience.
